Dimensioning
Term | Definition |
---|---|
aligned system | the dimensions are placed in lines with dimension line |
basic hole system | is one in which the design size of the hole is basic size and the allowance is applied to the shift |
basic shaft system | is one which the design size of the hole is basic size and the allowance is applied to the hole |
bilateral tolerances | allow variations in both direction from a design size |
datums | are points, lines, and surface that are assumed to be exact |
dimension line | is a thin line that shows where a measurement begins and where it ends |
dual dimensioning system | is sometimes used in industries involved in international trade |
finish mark | shows that a surface is to be machined , or finished |
geometric dimensioning and telorancing | additions of material, shapes, and size information to an engineering drawing |
tolerance | the permissible limit or limits of variation |
unidirectional system | all dimension read from the bottom of the sheet, no matter where they appear |
unilateral tolerances | allow variations in only one direction from a design size |
