AntiDiuretic Hormone (ADH) | vasopressin which stimulates a rise in blood pressure, dehydration triggers the release of ADH, causees the kidney tubules to reabsorb water from urine, helps the body conserve water. |
Aldosterone | Made from adrenal cortex, stimulates kidney tubules to conserve sodium, which triggers the release of ADH |
Glucagon | produced by alpha cells, pancreatic islets promotes the movement of glucose from storage and into the blood |
Insulin | produced by beta cells pancreatic islets promotes movement of glucose out from blood and into the cells |
Erythropoietin | A hormone that produced by the kidneys that promote red blood cell production |
Erythrocyte | transportation of respiratory gases (O2 and CO2) |
Neutrophil | cellular defense-phagocytosis of small pathogenic microorganisms |
basophil | secretes heparin and histamine |
Eosinophil | Cellular defense-phagocytosis chemical attack of large pathogenic microorganisms and parasite worms; helps regulate allergic reactions and other inflammatory agents. |
lymphocytes | Humoral defense- secretes antibodies, involved with immune system response and regulation |
Monocyte | capable of migrating out of the blood to enter tissue spaces as a macrophage-an aggressive phagocytic cell capable of ingesting bacteria, cellular debri, and cancerous cells |
Platelet | releases clot-activated substances and helps the formation of blood clot by forming platelet plugs |
