SEO On-Page Optimization

On-page optimization On-page optimization involves practices that seek to increase the ranking of an individual web page in search engine results.
Meta description An HTML meta tag providing a brief summary of a web page's content
Long-tail keywords Search phrase that caters to a more specific, lower-volume search query
Breadcrumb navigation Secondary navigation system of links for a website, typically appearing horizontally across the top of the web page
User intent The user’s goal or reason behind a search query
Search demand curve Graph of search volume for related keywords, ranging from high volume to low volume at the "long tail" of the curve
Keyword stuffing Practice of using many keywords in an attempt to manipulate search engine ranking
Inbound links Link from another website that directs users and search engines to another page; also known as backlinks
Featured snippets Snippets that feature a result on the first page of the SERP by presenting content from the page to answer the user’s search query
Image packs Results with a row of image links where a search engine determines that visual content would answer a search query
In-depth articles Similar to organic results, follow special ranking rules specific to long-form content
Knowledge cards Special entries that appear at the top of a SERP providing data supplied through human-edited services, data partnerships, and semantic data extracted from the search engine index
Knowledge panels Special entries, often with text and images, that typically appear to the right of organic search results, and are derived from human-edited sources like WikiData, data extracted from search engine indexes, and private data partnerships
Local pack Local search results, often including a map, three physical locations, with links to websites and driving directions
Local teaser pack Three-pack of local business results shown on a map with basic information such as hours of operation, reviews, images, and ratings
News box Block of time-sensitive and newsworthy citizens that relate to a user’s search query
Related questions A block of questions the search engine algorithm indicates may relate to a user’s search
Shopping results Paid placement of products related to a user’s search query
Site links Expanded pack of up to ten site links when a user searches for an exact domain
Click depth Measure of how many clicks it takes a user to access a page from the landing page
