Heart Functions

Description of functions of the heart.

HeartStructure and Function
Endocardium thin inner layer
Myocardium muscle layer
Epicardium fibrous outer layer
Pericardium surrounds heart
Visceral layer in contact with the epicardium
Parietal layer in contact with the mediastinum
Pericardial fluid lubricant in the space between the pericardial layers
Septum divides heart into left and right sides.
Atria two upper chambers
Ventricles two lower chambers
