What is an indicator? A device that changes color in a solution to indicate whether it is acidic, basic, or neutral.
What produces H₃O+ ions when added to water? Acid
How is salt formed? When the negative ions from an acid combine with the positive ions from a base.
What is titration? The process in which a solution of known concentration is used to determine the concentration of another solution.
What is neutralization? A chemical reaction between a base and an acid that forms a salt and water.
What is pH? A measurement of how acidic or basic a solution is.
How is soap created? Adding organic acids to a salt will make it a soap.
What substance will produce hydroxide ions when dissolved in water? Base
What are the chemical symbols for hydronium and hydroxide ions? Hydronium- (H₃O+) Hydroxide- (OH-)
What has a pH higher than 7? Bases
The lower the pH, the more _______ a solution is Acidic
What is the difference between a strong base and a weak base? A strong base will fully dissociate in water, while a weak base only partially dissociates.
