Behavior sound/light

TEKS 7A,7C,7D, 7E

TermDefinition
Reflection Bouncing back of a wave
Refraction Bending of a wave
Diffraction Spreading of waves around obstacles
Interference the net effect of two or more waves that intersect
Resonance when one object vibrating at the same natural frequency of a second object forces that second object into vibrational motion
Doppler Effect an increase (or decrease) in the frequency of sound, light, or other waves as the source and observer move toward (or away from) each other
Plane Mirror a flat reflective surface
Convex Lens refracted rays converge at one point
Real Image reproduction of an object via light that can be formed on a surface
Virtual Image outgoing rays from a point on an object always diverge
Angle of Incidence the angle made by a ray of light with a perpendicular to the reflecting surface
Angle of Reflection the angle made by a reflected ray with a perpendicular to the reflecting surface
Angle of Refraction the angle between a bent ray and a line drawn normal to the interface between two media
Index of Refraction the ratio of the speed of the light in vacuum to the speed of the light in the medium
Red Shift describe how light shifts toward longer wavelengths as objects in space move away from an observer (Doppler Effect)
Blue Shift describe how light shifts toward shorter wavelengths as objects in space move toward an observer (Doppler Effect)
Incident Ray ray of light that strikes a surface
Reflected Ray a ray of light which is thrown back from a surface

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
