Properties of Water
5.5B-Boiling, Freezing, Melting Point of Water
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Constant | Does NOT change. Always stays the same. |
Temperature | The measurement of heat or cold of an object or environment that is shown in degrees on a thermometer. |
Thermal Energy | Heat energy |
Boiling Point | The temperature at which a substance changes states from liquid to gas (for water, this is 100° Celsius). |
Evaporation | ‐‐‐‐‐ is the physical change in matter from a liquid to a gas. |
Melting Point | The temperature at which a substance changes states from a solid to a liquid (for water, this is 0° Celsius). |
Freezing Point | The temperature at which a substance changes from a liquid to a solid (for water, this is 0° Celsius). |
Condensation | ‐‐‐‐‐ is the physical change in matter from a gas to a liquid. |
Celsius | A temperature scale on which water freezes at 0° and boils at 100°. |
Physical State (State of Matter) | The classification of matter as a solid, liquid, or gas. |
Relative Density | Objects that are more dense than water will sink and objects that are less dense than water will float. |
Matter | Stuff that everything is made of, anything that has mass and takes up space. |
Insulator | Material that slows down or stops electric current or thermal (heat) energy from passing through. |
Classify | To group something together based on similar characteristics. |
Conductor | Material that allows electric current or thermal (heat) energy to pass through easily. |
Magnetism | Property of attraction to a magnet. |
