Word Lesson 1 Understanding Word
Term | Definition |

Backstage View | A tool that offers quick access to commands for performing tasks |
Block Style | A format that aligns text along the left margin |
Command | An instruction based on an action that you perform on Word by clicking a button or entering information into a command box |
Dialog Box | Displays additional options or information you can use to execute a command |
Groups | Collections of related Word commands |
I-beam | The large "I" created when users place the cursor near the insertion point |
Insertion Point | The blinking point at the upper-left side of the document where you will begin creating your text |
Menu | A list of options |
Mixed Punctuation | Adding a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing |
Nonprinting Characters | Symbols for creating formatting commands; they're hidden but they format your text |
Open punctuation | Requires no punctuation after the salutation or closing |
Preview | Lets you see what your printed document will look like so you can correct errors before printing. |

Settings | List of adjustments in a program that adjusts to the user's settings |
Tabs | In the ribbon, these contain various commands |
Template | A document layout that is already formatted |
Undo | Lets you cancel or undo your last Word command or action |
White Space | Space between the pages of a document |
Word Wrap | Automatically wraps text to the next line/page as it reaches the right margin |
Mini Toolbar | A small toolbar with popular commands that appear when you point to selected text |
