Lesson 1 Vocabulary

Backstage View a screen that appears when you click the File tab in Word 2016; containing commands for managing the backstage view
Command an instruction based on an action that you perform in Word by clicking a button or entering into a command box; on the RIBBON
Dialogue Box a box that prompts the user for additional information when executing a command
Dialogue Box Launcher a small icon on the RIBBON that opens up a dialogue box related to that group
Groups collections of related Word commands
I-Beam when you place your cursor near the insertion point, it changes to a large "I"
Block Style format aligns text along the left margin, including the date, inside address, salutation, body of the letter, closing, and signature
Insertion Point the blinking point in the upper-left corner of the document; where you begin creating your text
Menu a list of options
Mixed Punctuation requires a colon after salutation and a comma after the closing
Non-printing Characters symbols for certain formatting commands, such as paragraphs, indents and tabs, and spaces between words
Open Punctuation requires no punctuation after the salutation or the closing
Preview the preview pane gives you an opportunity to see what your printed document will look like, so you can correct errors before printing
Print choosing the print button automatically prints the document to the default printer using the default settings
Quick Access Toolbar located above the RIBBON; contains commands that users access most often
Repeat clicking the repeat command repeats your last action
Ribbon contains multiple commands on separate tabs
Save clicking the save button in the Quick Access Toolbar for the first time opens the Save As screen
Save As appears as a command listed in Backstage View when you click the File Tab
Settings use the settings options to control document-specific print parameters
Tabs a label section of a RIBBON that contains a group or related tools
Template a master document with a predefined page layout, fonts, margins, and styles that is used to create new documents with the same basic formatting
Undo the undo command lets you cancel or undo your last Word command or action
White Space the space between pages of the document
Word Wrap automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin
