Understanding word
Term | Definition |

Backstage view | Is a screen that also appears when you click the file tab. |
Block style | aligns text along the left margin, including the date, Inside address, salutation, body of the letter, closing and signature. |
Command | enables users to save their work to the cloud and access the document quickly from any computer or tablet. |
dialog box | more options to select or complete a command. |
dialog box launcher | a small arrow in the right hand corner that you click to launch a dialog box that displays additional options or information you can use to execute a command. |
Groups | collections of related word commands |

Insertion point | in the upper left hand corner of the document is where you begin creating your text. |
Menu | list of options associated with command options. |
Mixed punctuation | requires a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing. |
Nonprinting characters | symbols for certain formatting commands that can help users create and edit documents |
open punctuation | using less punctuation marks when writing. |
preview | a tool that enables users to visually check your document for errors before printing |
Icon in the upper left hand corner that you click on to print what your working on. | |
quick access toolbar | set of commands that are independent of the tab on the ribbon that is currently displayed. |
repeat | to redo what was said or done, or to fix a mistake |
Ribbon | a graphical control element in the form of a set of toolbars placed on several tabs. |
save | stores the data back to the file and folder it originally came from. |
save as | a command in the file menu of most applications that causes a copy of the current document or image to be created |
settings | An option that enables users to set document properties. |
tabs | a paragraph formatting feature used to align text. |
template | master document that has predefined page layout, fonts, margins, and styles and is used to create new documents that will share the same basic formatting. |
undo white space | a command that will allow users to cancel or delete a blank space in a document. |
word wrap | the tool that automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin. |
