Word Lesson 1- Understanding Word
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Backstage View | A tool that offers quick access to commands for performing many file management tasks. |
Block Style | A format that aligns text along the left margin, including the date, inside address, salutation, body of the letter, closing, and signature. |
Command | An instruction based on an action that you perform by clicking a button or entering information into a command box. |
Dialog Box | Displays additional options or information you can use to execute a command. |
Dialog Box Launcher | A small arrow in the lower-right corner of the group that you click to launch a dialog box. |
Groups | Collections of related Word commands. |
I-Beam | When you place your cursor near the insertion point, it changes to a large "I" which is called the I-Beam. |
Insertion Point | The blinking point in the upper-left corner of the document is where you begin creating your text. |
Menu | A list of options associated with command icons. |
Mixed Punctuation | Requires a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing. |
Nonprinting characters | Symbols for certain formatting commands , such as paragraphs, indents and tabs and spaces between words. |
Open Punctuation | Requires no punctuation after the salutation or the closing. |
Preview | Enables you to view your document before printing to check for any text or layout errors. |
Command located in the File tab. Shows printing options, properties and settings. | |
Quick Access Toolbar | Contains commands that you need to quickly access and that you use most often. |
Repeat | Repeats your last action. |
Ribbon | Contains multiple commands on seperate tabs. |
Save | By clicking, you can save your work. If you click for the first time, a save as screen will pop up. |
Save as | Appears as a command listed in backstage view when you click the File tab. |
Settings | Options to control document specific changes.* |
Tabs | The ribbon command contains multiple commands on seperate tabs.** |
Template | A master document with a predefined page layout, fonts, margins, and styles that are used to create new documents. |
Undo | Command that allows you to cancel or undo your last word command or action. |
White Space | Space between the pages of documents. |
Word Wrap | Automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin. |
