Word Lesson 1 Understanding word
Term | Definition |

Backstage View | A screen that appear when you click the File tab in word |
Block Style | Format that aligns text along the left margin |
Command | An instruction based on an action that you preform |
Dialog box | Displays additional options or information you can use to execute a command |
Dialog box launcher | A small arrow in the lower-right corner of the group |
Groups | Collections of related word commands |
I-beam | Where the insertion point changes to a large 'I' |
Insertion point | The point on where you begin creating your text |
Menu | A list of options associated with Command icons |
Mixed punctuation | A colon after the salutation and a coma after the closing |
Non-printing characters | Symbols for certain formatting commands such as paragraphs, indents and tabs, and spaces between words |
Open punctuation | No punctuation after the salutation or the closing |
Preview | Enables you to view your document as it will appear |
Print command is located on the file tab | |
Quick Access Toolbar | To access word commands |
Repeat | Repeats your last action |
Ribbon | Contains multiple Commands on separate tabs |
Save | Button in the quick access toolbar |
Save As | Lets you chose a save location for your file |

Template | Master document with a predefined page layout |
Undo | command that lets you cancel or undo your last word command |
White Space | The space between pages of the document |
Word Wrap | Auto wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin |
