TermDefinition
bibliography a list of the books referred to in a scholarly work, typically printed as an appendix.
bookmark a strip of leather, cardboard, or other material used to mark one's place in a book.
caption a title or brief explanation appended to an article, illustration, cartoon, or poster.
citation a quotation from or reference to a book, paper, or author, especially in a scholarly work.
endnote a note printed at the end of a book or section of a book.
footer a person or thing of a specified number of feet in length or height.
footnote an ancillary piece of information printed at the bottom of a page.
header a shot or pass made with the head.
hyperlink a link from a hypertext file or document to another location or file, typically activated by clicking on a highlighted word or image on the screen.
hypertext transfer protocol ( is an application protocol for distributed, collaborative, hypermedia information systems.
MLA style recommended by the Modern Language Association for preparing scholarly manuscripts and student research papers. It concerns itself with the mechanics of writing, such as punctuation, quotation, and documentation of sources. ... Also see the MLA website.
plagiarism the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own.
source a place, person, or thing from which something comes or can be obtained.
tab leader A word processing function that draws a dotted line from the current cursor location to the next tab stop. It is widely used to create lists such as tables of contents.
table of authorities is part of a legal brief that contains a list of the cases, statutes, and secondary sources cited in the brief. The table of authorities has the page number or numbers on which each authority appears.
table of contents usually headed simply Contents and abbreviated informally as TOC, is a list, usually found on a page before the start of a written work, of its chapter or section titles or brief descriptions with their commencing page numbers.
works cited Works cited means the same as references but differs from a bibliography. A works cited page is a list of works that you referenced in the body of your paper, whereas a bibliography is a list of all sources you used in your research.
