QuestionAnswer
confidence learn how to introduce yourself to a patient.
thinking independently read the nursing literature, especially when there are different views on the same subject.
fairness listen to both sides of any discussion.
responsibility & accountability ask for help if you are not sure about how to perform an aspect of patient care. report any problems immediately. follow standards of practice in your care.
risk taking if your knowledge causes you to question a physician or health care provider's order, do so.
discipline be thorough in whatever you do and take your time.
perseverance be wary of an easy answer. if you are given info. about a patient and some facts are missing, clarify information or talk to the patient directly.
creativity look for different approaches if interventions are not working.
curiosity always ask why. explore and learn more about the patient to make the right judgments.
integrity recognize when your opinions may conflict with those of a patient; review your position, and decide how best to proceed to reach mutually beneficical outcomes.
humility recognize when you need more information to make a decision, ask for an orientation to the area, ask nurses regularly assigned to area for assistance.
