Origins, Insertions, Innervations and actions

QuestionAnswer
Brachioradialis Proximal attachment (origin)? Proximal 2/3 or supraepicondylar ridge of humerus
Brachioradialis distal attachments? distal radius (proximal to styloid process)
Brachioradialis innervation? Radial nerve (C5,C6,C7)
Brachioradialis main actions? Flexes forearm when protonated
Extensor carpi radialis longus origin? lateral supraepicondylar ridge of humerus
Extensor carpi radialis longus insertion? dorsal aspect of base of 2nd metacarpel
Extensor carpi radialis longus innervation? Radial nerve (c6,c7)
Extensor carpi radialis longus action? Extends and ABducts hand at wrist
E. Carpi radialis brevis origin? lateral epicondyle of humerus (common extensor origin)
E. Carpi radialis brevis insertion? dorsal aspect of base of 3rd metacarpel
E. Carpi radialis brevis innervation? Deep branch of radial nerve (C7,C8)
E. Carpi radialis brevis action? extend and ABduct hand at wrist
E. digitorum origin? Lateral epicondyle of humerus
E. digitorum insertion? extensor expansions of medial 4 fingers
E. digitorum innervation? posterior interosseous nerve (C7,C8)
E. digitorum action? extends medial 4 fingers at metacarpophalangeal joint; somewhat at interphalangeal joints
E. digiti minimi origin? Lateral epicondyle of humerus
E. digiti minimi insertion? extensor expansion of 5th finger
E. digiti minimi innervation? posterior interosseous nerve (C7,C8)
E. digiti minimi action? extends 5th finger at metacarpophalangeal joint; somewhat at interphalangeal joints
E. carpi ulnaris origin? lateral epicondyle of humerous and posterior border of ulna via shared aponeurosis
E. carpi ulnaris insertion? dorsal aspect of base of 5th metacarpel
E. carpi ulnaris innervation? posterior interosseous nerve (C7,C8)
E. carpi ulnaris action? extends adn ADDucts hand at wrist (also active when hand is clenched)
Supinator origin? lateral epicondyle, radial collateral and annular ligaments, supinator fossa, crest of ulna
Supinator insertion? proximal 1/3 of radius
Supinator innervation? deep branch of radial nerve (C7,C8)
Supinator action? supinates forearm, rotates radius back to anatomical position
Extensor indicis origin? posterior surface of distal 1/3 of ulna, interosseous membrane
Extensor indicis insertion? extensor expansion of 2nd finger
Extensor indicis innervation? posterior interosseous nerve (C7,C8)
Extensor indicis action? independent extension of 2nd finger, also aids in extension of hand at wrist
ABductor pollicis longus origin? post surface of proximal 1/2 of lna and radius, interosseous membrane
ABductor pollicis longus insertion? base of 1st metacarpel
ABductor pollicis longus innervation? posterior interosseous nerve (C7,C8)
ABductor pollicis longus action? ABducts thumb and extends at carpometacarpal joint
Extensor pollicis brevis origin? post surface of distal 1/3 or radius, interosseous membrane
Extensor pollicis brevis insertion? dorsal aspect of base of proximal phalanx of thumb
Extensor pollicis brevis innervation? posterior interosseous nerve (C7,C8)
Extensor pollicis brevis action? extends proximal phalanx of thumb at metacarpophalangeal joint, extends carpometacarpal joint
Extensor pollicis longus origin? post surface of middle 1/3 or ulna, interosseous membrane
Extensor pollicis longus insertion? dorsal aspect of base of distal phalanx of thumb
Extensor pollicis longus innervation? posterior interosseous nerve (C7,C8)
Extensor pollicis longus action? extends distal phalanx of thumb at interphalangeal joint, extends metacarpophalangeal and carpometacarpel joints

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
