11 body systems

TermDefinition
The Integumentary system Hair, skin, fingernails, toenails. Protection of the body from drying out, controls temp
The skeletal system Bone, cartilage, joint. Support for the body, allows movement and protects the brain
The muscular system Muscle, muscle tissue. Helps us to move, move things around the body e.g blood
The nervous system Brain, spinal cord, nerve. Transmitting sensory information, processing information and causing bodily responses
The endocrine system Glands/tissue, thyroid gland, pancreas, ovary and testis. Produces hormones, travels through blood, target cells respond to the message
The cardiovascular system Heart, blood vessel-artry, veins. Blood transport many substances (oxygen, hormones), regulates temp and pH level
The lymphatic (and immune) system Tonsil, thymus, spleen, lymph node. Drains all the fluid from blood capillaries/ tissues cells and returns it into the blood
The respiratory system Pharynx, Larynx (voice box), bronchus, lungs. Carries out gas exchange between the blood and the air, regulates blood pH, allows us to speak and smell
The digestive system mouth, salivary glands, stomach, pancreas, large/small intestine, Anus. Breaks larger food into smaller bits. Absorbs the products of digestion and processes them.
The urinary system kidneys, ureter, bladder, uretha. Produces, stores and eliminates urine
The reproductive system testes, ovaries and other associated organs. Makes babies, combines genes from both parent
