Wave Model of Light

QuestionAnswer
Wave It is a disturbance or movement that transfers energy through matter or space, without causing any permanent displacement
Energy It is the capacity to apply a force over a distance.
Force It is a push or a pull on an object.
Crest It is the highest point on a wave.
Trough It is the lowest point on a wave
Wavelength It is the distance, in metres, for one complete cycle of the wave.
Amplitude It is the height of a wave crest or depth of a trough, as measured from its rest position.
_______________ the amplitude, greater the energy transported LARGER the amplitude, greater the energy transported
_______________the amplitude, lesser the energy transported SMALLER the amplitude, lesser the energy transported
Light waves with larger amplitude will carry more energy and will be very _____________________ Light waves with smaller amplitudes will carry less energy and will be very BRIGHT
Light waves with smaller amplitudes will carry less energy and will be _________ Light waves with smaller amplitudes will carry less energy and will be DIM
________________________ is the number of repetitive motions, or oscillations , that occur in a given time FREQUENCY is the number of repetitive motions, or oscillations , that occur in a given time
Frequency is usually measured in __________ Frequency is usually measured in HERTZ (Hz).
Low Frequency- ___________wavelength Low Frequency- LARGER wavelength
High Frequency- __________ wavelength High Frequency- SMALLER wavelength
Frequency can be calculated using the following equation: frequency = cycles/seconds
Transverse wave For this type of wave matter in the medium moves perpendicular to direction of the wave.
Compression wave . For this type of wave matter in the medium moves parallel to direction of the wave
Transverse wave Ocean waves
Compression wave Sound waves

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
