Explain how the first battle began. Lincoln said it was illegal for a state to secede. He chose to ignore SOUTH CAROLINA.

What was the first major battle of the Civil War? Why was it unusual? The north started to retreat and run up the hill and there were civilians were watching
What was the Gettysburg Address? A speech from Abe Lincoln after the Gettysburg battle
What did the Emancipation Proclamation say? It said that any Confederate territory taken in war would become free; slaves would be given their Freedom. This did NOT give freedom to slaves in states that sided with the Union.
What was the last battle of the Civil War? Battle of Appomattox
