substituting replacing a variable with a constant

factors numbers that are multiplied together
equation a sentence which says that one expression is equal to another expression
left member the expression on the left side
right member the expression on the right side
solution a number you can substitute for the variable that makes the sentence true
transform to do the same operation to each member of the equation
