Inheritance

Identifying various forms of inheritance

QuestionAnswer
A plant species has two alleles for flower color: Red (R) and White (r). The Red (R) allele exhibits complete dominance. A (RR) male is crossed with a recessive female. Identify the probability that an offspring will be homozygous dominant? 0%
Scientists call an organism that has two different alleles for a trait Heterozygous
DNA sequences that control traits are called Genes
If alleles are written TT, it means the organism would be Homozygous Dominant
If alleles are written tt, it means the organism would be Homozygous Recessive
Long radishes crossed with round radishes result in all oval radishes. This type of inheritance is: Incomplete Dominance
A cross of a white chick (WW) with a black chick (BB) produces all speckled offspring (WB) This type of inhetitance is known as: Codominance
If a homozygous white guinea pig (bb) is crossed with a homozygous white guinea pig (bb), what is the probability that the offspring will have black hair? 100%
An organisms physical appearance is its Pheonotype
An organisms actual genes is its Genotype
What does a Punnett Square show? A model of the possible outcomes of a genetic cross.
Which combination will result in an offspring being female? XX
If two white sheep produce a black offspring, the parent’s genotypes for color must be: Heterozygous

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
