| Dominant | Describes a gene that is always expressed because it masks the other gene; represented by a capital letter. |

| Genotype | The genetic code of an organism - represented by two letters. |
| Heredity | The passing of traits from one generation to the next by means of genes. |
| Hybrid | An organism with one dominant and one recessive gene for the same trait. |
| Inheritance | The receiving of traits from the previous generation. |
| Offspring | The organisms or cells that are the result of reproduction. |
| Phenotype | The physical appearance of an organism based on its genotype. |
| Pure Trait | When an organism has either two dominant or two recessive genes. |
| Recessive | Describes the gene that can be masked by a dominant gene; represented by a lower case letter. The recessive trait only appears when both genes are recessive. |
| Trait | A distinguishing characteristic based on your genes (such as eye color or hair color). |
