QuestionAnswer
Which type of solution, (hypertonic, hypotonic, or isotonic) has a higher concentration compared to another? Hypertonic.
If an animal cell were placed in a hypotonic solution, what would happen to the cell? The animal cell would swell with water and eventually burst if left in that state for too long.
What is an an example of an active transport? A sodium-potassium pump.
Spindle fibers start to form at what organelle in the cell during prophase? Centrioles.
Give an example of a diploid cell. Skin cells (somatic cell).
What are the three main events of interphase? G1 phase, S phase, and G2 phase.
At this checkpoint of the cell cycle, sister chromatids must be attached to the spindle fibers and the microtubules must by attached to all kinetichores before continuing. M Phase checkpoint.
What begins to form on an animal cell during cytokinesis before the two new daughter cells pinch off from each other? Cleavage furrow.
What forms on a plant cell during cytokinesis? Cell plate.
What triggers mitosis in G2? The accumulation of cyclin molecules in the cell.
What is the central dogma of biology? DNA > mRNA > proteins
Chromatin is defined as what? Unwound/loose strands of DNA and proteins that contain genetic information.
What are the two limiting factors of cell size? 1. Instructions from DNA can only go so far. 2. Surface area to volume ratio.
These channel proteins facilitate the passage of water molecules trhough the membrane. Aquaporins.
Which two proteins help in the process of facilitated diffusion? Channel and carrier proteins.
