7 Seasons - Solar System
Question | Answer |
---|---|
Solar system | The sun with the stars and other objects that revolve around it in its gravitational field |
Rotation | The way the Earth turns or spins around its own axis toward the east. One rotation is equivalent (equal) to about 24 hours or one day. |
Revolution | The trip the Earth makes around the sun in one year |
Equinox | Happens each year at two specific moments in time when there is a location on the Earth's Equator where the center of the Sun can be observed to be vertically overhead, occurring around March 20/21 and September 22/23 each year. |
Solstice | Happens twice each year, when the tilt of the Earth's axis is most inclined toward or away from the Sun, causing the Sun's apparent position in the sky to reach its northernmost or southernmost extreme, occurring around June 20/21 and December 21/22. |
Leap year | Occurs once every four years containing one or more extra days in order to keep the calendar synchronized (in step or the same as) with the seasonal year. The extra day is February 29; February usually has only 28 days during all other years |
Earth | The third planet from the sun and sits on an angle with an invisible axis |
