7 Exploring Space

QuestionAnswer
Electromagnetic Spectrum The range (short to long) of wavelengths
Telescope Used to magnify (make bigger) objects in space so that people can see the objects in space.
Refractor Telescope that magnifies (makes bigger) objects. It uses a convex (curved outward like the surface of a ball) glass lens to bend light and bring it into focus
Reflector Telescope uses a concave (curved inward like a bowl) glass lens and magnifies (make bigger) an object
Observatory A large building used to view the sky, stars, and planets. It often has a dome-shaped (curved) roof
Orbit A curved path, usually oval in shape, created by gravity
Satellite Any object that orbits around another object
Space Probe Manmade instrument that goes deep into space to gather (get) and return data (information)
Space Shuttle Vehicle that carries supplies or people into space; it can be reused (used again)
Apollo The final (last) project to get people on the moon
Global Positioning System (GPS) Uses satellites to find locations on the Earth
