Exponents and Polynomials

binomial A polynomial with two terms.
cubic A polynomial of degree 3.
degree of a monomial The sum of the exponents of the variables in the monomial.
degree of a polynomial The degree of the term of the polynomial with the greatest degree.
difference of two squares A polynomial of the form a^2- b^, which may be written as the product (a + b) (a - b).
leading coefficient The coefficient of the first term of a polynomial in standard form.
monomial A number or a product of numbers and variables with whole-number exponents, or a polynomial with one term.
perfect-square trinomial A trinomial whose factored from is the square of a binomial. a^2 -2ab + b^2 = (a-b)^2 or a^2 +2ab + b^2 = (a + b )^2
polynomial A monomial or a sum or difference of monomials.
quadratic A polynomial with a degree of 2.
scientific notation A method of writing very large or very small numbers, by using powers of 10.
standard form of a polynomial A polynomial in one variable is written in order from greatest to least degree.
trinomial A polynomial with three terms.
