Weather/Climate

TermDefinition
weather describes the DAILY conditions of the atmosphere at a given place and time.
climate describes the Long-term (average, or typical) weather patterns of a region over many years or seasons.
humidity the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere
wind the movement of air caused by the uneven heating of Earth's surface by the Sun
latitude the distance of a place north or south of the equator
altitude the height of an area in relation to Earth's surface
typical "usual", "average", what "normally" happens
equator an imaginary line that divides Earth into a North and South hemisphere.
wind vane a weather tool that shows the direction of the wind. (N, E, S, W)
rain gauge a weather tool that measures rainfall amounts
temperature how hot or cold something is (Ex. air )
thermometer a weather tool that measure temperature
polar climate a region far north or south from the equator that is typically cold all year and have low amounts of precipitation
tropical climate a region near the equator; typically hot/warm all year and has varying amounts of rain
temperate climate regions found between Earth's poles and the equator; temperatures and precipitation depend on seasons
meteorologist a scientist who studies the weather
forecast to predict weather conditions on the basis of meteorologist's observations and data
average a level that is typical ; not extreme; what usually occurs
usual (usually) the ordinary course of things : often happens : as a rule
atmosphere a mixture of gases (in the air) that surrounds the Earth
