Light and Waves

What is white light? A mixture of many colours.
What are the three primary colours of light? Red, green and blue.
What is the scientist word for rainbow? Spectrum
What are the colours made when you mix them together? Magenta, cyan, white and yellow.
What happens when white light enters the spectrum? Light is refracted when it enters the prism, and each colour is refracted by a different amount. This means that the light leaving the prism is spread out into its different colours, a process called dispersion
What are the seven colours of the spectrum? Hint:Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain. red,orange,yellow,green,blue,indigo,violet
Why is an apple red? Because it absorbs all the colours except red.
How do light waves travel? In a straight line.
What is light made up of? Waves
How is a shadow formed? When light waves can't go through the object.
What is an example of light being energy? When plants get energy from the sun.
Does a torch give off white light? Yes
What colour absorbs all colours? Black
What colours don't abosorb all colours? White
What causes reflection? When a light hits a smooth, shiny surface.
What is the angle that goes in called? Angle of incidence
What is the angle that comes out called? Angle of reflection
What does a rough surface do to light? Scatters light
What is refraction? An effect that occurs when light bends as it passes from one substance into another.
