Circulatory System

QuestionAnswer
Why is our circulatory system important to us? It transports oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and carbon dioxide throughout the body.
Why are our veins important? They transport blood back to the heart.
Why are our arteries important to us? They transport blood away from our heart.
Why are our capillaries important to us? They surround all of our cells and allow for substances to be exchanged between the blood and the cells.
This organ pumps blood through our blood vessels. Heart
Saturated fats in the diet can lead to clogged arteries (atherosclerosis), a heart attack and stroke.
Nutrients are broken down and absorbed from this system into the circulatory system Digestive System
The heart contains 4 chambers
This chamber receives oxygenated blood from the lungs Left Atrium
This chamber receives deoxygenated blood from the body cells Right Atrium
This chamber pumps oxygenated blood to all the body cells Left Ventricle
This is the thickest artery in the body and leaves the left ventricle aorta
These blood vessels have the thickest walls arteries
These four chambers of the heart consist of Two Atria and Two Ventricle
What kind of muscle is the heart made of cardiac muscle that is involuntary
The general pathway of blood in the body starting at the right side of the heart is right side of heart-->lungs-->left side of the heart-->body cells -->back to right side of heart
Platelets help to clot the blood and prevent a person from bleeding to death and losing too much blood
White blood cells fight off harmful bacteria and viruses
Red blood cells transport oxygen and carbon dioxide
The iron-pigment found on red blood cells is called hemoglobin
No consuming enough iron in the diet can lead to anemia (low hemoglobin and red blood cells)
This system provides the circulatory system with oxygen and removes carbon dioxide from the body respiratory system (lungs)
Pulse points are located on the wrist and neck (where a major artery is close to the skin's surface)
