disposable income | the money left from a person's gross income after taking out taxes |
niche market | a new market in tourism that bases travel on specific interests |
package tour | a prearranged tour that offers value, guaranteed sightseeing and a quality product. Usually you get some kind of combination of hotel, tourism activities, and transportation as a part of the package and is at a group rate. |
charter tour | a tour in which a tour operator buys all the seats on an airplane, train or bus and resells them to travelers. can be independent, hosted or escorted tours. For example a charter cruise. |
customized tour | more expensive than package tour and is designed for an individual tourist |
hosted tours | when someone is available at each stop or destination to help or provide information about that spot or activity |
escorted or guided tours | the most structured of tours. when guests travel together as a group with a tour guide or escort |
independent tours | these tours are organized so guests can choose from a set of dates, and a menu of accommodations, activities and options. They get group rates but get to be independent |
travel | the movement of a person from one location to another location of some distance for any of several reasons |
tourism | the industry that develops and organizes destinations, activities, and events and then markets those destinations, activities, and events to travelers |
travel agent | is an individual who works at la retail business that brings travelers and travel industry suppliers together |
travel planner | has many of the same duties as a travel agent but usually works for a big corporation |
travel agency | a private business that promotes travel to the public |
commission | is a percentage of the sale price that is paid to the seller or agent as a fee for their work |
dynamic packaging | is a process used by travel agents that allows travelers to build their own package of flights, hotels, and car rentals around their specific needs |
infrastructure | the basic physical and organizational structures needed for the operation of a society or community: roads, bridges, hospitals, airports, hotels, internet, communication technology, etc. |
leisure time | the time left over after work and other necessities |
baby boomers | are the demographic group born during the post–World War II baby boom, approximately between the years 1946 and 1964. |
