What is a phrase???????????? | A group of words that never have a noun/verb pair together |
List two types of phrases | Prepositional phrase and Participle phrase |
Give three examples of a prepositional phrase | Behind the tree, around the corner, under the table |
Give three examples of a participle phrase | Running in the hallway, jumping on the trampoline, tired of his arguing |
Define a simple sentence | It may have many subjects and predicates but completes ONE thought |
Example of a simple sentence with a phrase | Eating an ice cream cone, John choked. |
Example of a simple sentence with compound predicates | John ate a burger and drove to work. |
Define a compound sentence | A sentence that has two or more independent clauses and is joined by a FANBOYS |
List FANBOYS | For, and, nor, but, or, yet, so |
Example of a complex sentence - dependent clause first | Because I ate the donut, I threw up |
Example of a complex sentence - independent clause first | I died, because i jumped off the cliff |
