Who is described as the author of Acts? Luke
On what occasion did the Holy Spirit descend on the apostle and believers in the upper room? Pentecost
What does the term"Pentecost" mean? A Jewish festival held 50 days after Passover, signifying thanksgiving to God for a harvest, also called the Festival of Weeks.
What was the significance of Pentecost to the Christian Church? It was the day the church "harvested" or gathered in it's first human souls to be followers of our Lord.
How many new believers were added to the church that day? 3,000
In what language did the people receive the "Good News" or Gospel on Pentecost? In their own languages, that they understood.
What were the Apostles accused of when they began to speak to the people on Pentecost? Some people accused them of being drunk on wine.
What old testament prophet did Peter speak to the people of, and quote from? The prophet Joel Chapter 2 Verses 28-29
Why did Peter quote Joel? To explain why and how they were witnessing what was occurring to them that day. To explain that the Holy Spirit was being given to all peoples.
How did Peter use the writings of King David to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus? Peter told of David's assurance that his heir Jesus would not be abandoned to the grave, as he would be. That he would be raised to new life and carry on, in his lineage.
What act did the apostle plead for the people to do to be saved? To accept the message, and be baptized.
Where did the early church hold their prayer meetings? They met in the Temple and in each other's homes.
How did the early church meet the everyday needs of the people? Many sold their possessions and gave to those who had need.
