Centi- a prefix meaning “hundredth” or “hundred,” used in the formation of compound words
centum one hundred
Conversion a change in the form of a measurement, different units, without a change in the size or amount.
Deca a prefix meaning “ten,” used in the formation of compound words
decem ten
Deci a prefix meaning “tenth,” used in words denoting units of the metric system (deciliter)
Density A measure of how much matter is in a certain volume.
gram (prefix/suffix) A Metric measure of mass (which we feel as weight). 1000 grams = 1 kilogram Abbreviation is g
Hecto- A prefix meaning 100 Examples: • a hectagon is a polygon with 100 sides • a hectare is 100 ares (and an "are" is 100 square meters)
Kilo prefix used to denote the quantity in metric system. It means one thousand.
Length Distance. How far from end to end. Or from one point to another.
Liter A Metric unit of volume. Mostly used to measure liquids The abbreviation is L; 1 _________ = 1,000 milliliters (ml)
Meter The basic unit of length (or distance) in the Metric System. The abbreviation is m.
Meter stick a large ruler used for measuring size or distance using the metric scale. The measurements provided are in centimeters and millimeters.
milli- A prefix meaning one-thousandth (1/1,000)
pan balance A device for weighing. It has a balanced beam and two pans. When the pans contain exactly the same mass the beam is in balance.
volume The amount of 3-dimensional space an object occupies. Capacity.
