8 CK Rocket Science

8th CK MATH SCI So you want to be a rocket scientist CK - COMPLETE

TermDefinition
Friction force that resists motion between two surfaces that are touching
Nose cone forward most section of a rocket
Height-O-Meter a handheld instrument used to determine the angular height of an object
Concept map a type of diagram which shows various relationships between concepts
Baseline measurement the distance between where the observer is standing and the place on the ground directly under the rocket launcher
Rolling friction force that enables a wheel to roll past a surface
Rocket fins a fixed or movable airfoil used to stabilize a projectile in flight
Angular height the angle between a horizontal line at eye level and the direction they must look to see the object
Eye level measurement from ground to a person’s eyes
Static friction hinders a stationary object from moving on a surface when a force is applied to the object
Newton’s First Law of Motion – an object will remain at rest or continue in a constant speed and direction unless an outside force acts on the object.
Aerodynamic anything designed with rounded edges so as to reduce wind drag
Coordinate plane the plane containing the x and y axes
X-axis the horizontal number line
Y-axis the vertical number line
Sliding friction occurs when two surfaces slide past each other
Newton’s Third Law of Motion for every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction
Baseline measurement the distance between where the observer is standing and the place on the ground directly under the rocket launcher
Ordered pairs pairs of numbers used to locate points on a coordinate plane (x , y)
Newton’s Second Law of Motion an object will accelerate in the direction of the applied force
X-intercept the coordinate at which a graph intersects the x-axis
Y-intercept the coordinate at which a graph intersects the y-axis
Quadrants the four regions into which the x and y axes separate the coordinate plane
Linear equation an equation whose graph is a line
T-chart a table/chart that is used to show the x and y coordinates of a line
Independent variable the variable in a function whose value is subject to change. It affects the value of the dependent variable
Dependent variable the variable in a function whose value is determined by the independent variable
Linear graph formed from an equation whose graph is a line
Speed the distance traveled divided by the time of travel
Distance the entire path an object travels
Displacement the distance and direction between starting and stopping position
Velocity the distance traveled divided by time
Acceleration force divided by mass
Velocity displacement of distance divided by the time

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
