mafic | describes magma or igneous rock that is rich in magnesium and iron and that is generally dark in color |
basalt | a dark, fine-grained igneous rock |
granite | a coarse-grained igneous rock, that has obvious crystals of mica, quartz, and feldspars. Usually a mix of grey or pink, white, and black. |
obsidian | a glasslike volcanic rock formed by the rapid solidification of lava without crystallization. |
pumice | a very light and porous volcanic rock formed when a gas-rich froth of glassy lava solidifies rapidly. |
