stimulus a thing or event that evokes a specific functional reaction in an organ or tissue.
response a reaction to something.
neuron a specialized cell transmitting nerve impulses; a nerve cell
nerve impusle a signal transmitted along a nerve fiber. It consists of a wave of electrical depolarization that reverses the potential difference across the nerve cell membranes.
dendrite a short branched extension of a nerve cell, along which impulses received from other cells at synapses are transmitted to the cell body.
axon the long threadlike part of a nerve cell along which impulses are conducted from the cell body to other cells
nerve (in the body) a whitish fiber or bundle of fibers that transmits impulses of sensation to the brain or spinal cord, and impulses from these to the muscles and organs.
sensory neuron of or relating to sensation or the physical senses; transmitted or perceived by the senses.
interneuron a neuron that transmits impulses between other neurons, especially as part of a reflex arc
motorneuron a nerve cell forming part of a pathway along which impulses pass from the brain or spinal cord to a muscle or gland.
synapse a synapse is a structure that permits a neuron (or nerve cell) to pass an electrical or chemical signal to another neuron.
