Formatting Text & Paragraphs
| Term | Definition |

| font | a complete set of characters with the same typeface or design |
| font size | the increase or decrease of a font; measured in points |
| point | is 1/72 of an inch |
| theme | is a related set of fonts, colors, styles and effects that is applied to an entire document to give it a cohesive apperence |
| Drop cap | is a large initial capital letter, often used to set off the first paragraph of an article |
| bold | to make text darker or thicker |
| italic | to make text slanted |
| format painter | a powerful Word feature that allows you to copy all the format settings applied to selected text to other text that you want to format the same way |
| quick styles | to be used together in a document to make it attractive and readable |
| style | is a set of ormats, such as font, font size, and paragraph alignment, that are named and stored together |
| left aligned | it is flush with the left margin and has a ragged right edge |
| right aligned | make it flush with the right margin |
| justify | both the left and the right edges of the paragraph are flush with the left and right margins |
| center | is positioned evenly between the left and right margins |
| tab stop | is a point on the horizontal ruler that indecates the location at which to align text |
| indent | moving the edge in from the left or right margin |
| indent markers | indicate the indent settings for the paragraph in which the insertion point is located |
| bullet | is a charater,often a small circle, that appears before the items in a list in a list to add emphasis |
| borders | are lines you add above, below, to the side, or around words or paragraphs |
| shading | is a color or pattern you apply behind words or paragraphs to make them stand out on a page |
| clip art | is a collection of graphic images that you can insert into a document |
| clip organizer | where clip art is stored, which is a library of the clips |
| clips | media files such as graphics, photographs, sound, movies, and animations |
| sizing handles | the white circles that appear on the square edeges of the graphics |
| inline graphic | text wrapping to a graphic, it is part of text in which it was inserted |
| floating graphic | to move a graphic independently of text |
