What is Gout? Gout is an arthritic syndrome caused inflammatory response to crystals of monosodium urate monohydrate in joints, renal tubules, & other. The deposition of these crystals occur as a consequence of hyperuricemia, can result from overproduction uric acid
What are some characteristics of Gout? Painful joint inflammation due to mechanical irritation by the urate crystals.
Prostaglandins what are they responsible for? Roles in inflammation, fever, pain. Pain:sensitize sensory nerves and amplify pain sensation. Inflammation:promote inflamation(vasodilation) -Fever:Elevate body temp.
How do NSAIDs alleviate fevers? By inhibiting the prostaglandin synthesis in the hypothalamus but they do not reduce the body temperature below normal.
What is NSAIDs mechanism of action? *Decrease Production of PROSTAGLNDINS -Inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX), an enzymes that catalyzes the first step in the synthesis of prostaglandins from arachidonic acid and other precursor fatty acids.
What is prostaglandins effect? Prostaglandins are released from cells in response to chemical stimuli or trauma.
