Energy and Motion

Reference Point an object used for comparison to determine motion
Motion whether or not an object is in motion depends on the reference point you choose
Distance the length of a path between 2 points
Displacement length and direction that an obj moved from starting point
Vector both magnitude and direction
Scalar quantities described only by magnitude
Speed the distance an object travels per unit of time
Velocity speed in a given direction
Acceleration the rate at which velocity changes
Energy the ability to do work or cause change
Kinetic Energy energy that an object has due to its motion
Potential Energy stored energy that results from the position or shape of an object
Gravitational Potential Energy potential energy that depends on the height of an object
Elastic Potential Energy the energy of stretched or compressed objects
Mechanical Energy kinetic or potential energy associated with the motion or position of an object
Work this is done when an object is caused to move a certain distance
Law of Conservation of Energy the principal stating that matter is not created or destroyed during a chemical reaction
