dependent variable | the variable that depends on other factors, also the variable that will be measured and affected during the experiment |
empirical evidence | the observations , measurements, and other types of data that people gather and test to support and evaluate scientific explanations |
engineering | the application of science and mathematics to solve real-life problems |
experiment | a scientific procedure undertaken to make a discovery, test a hypothesis or demonstrate a known fact |
graph | a visual aid used by scientists to communicate results of an experiment |
prediction | indicate in advance on the basis of observation, experience or scientific reason |
quantitative observation | relating to observation that is expressed by a number or quantity |
range | the difference between the largest and smallest numbers in a data set |
mode | the number or numbers that occur most frequently in a data set |
median | the middle number in an ordered data set with an odd number of data points |

uncontrolled variable | variable that is out of someone's control; often human error |
histogram | type of bar graph; also shows the frequency of data within equal intervals |
