1st Quarter Vocab

TermDefinition
Central Idea What the story is mainly about.
Theme The message or lesson that is communicated in a literary work.
Setting When or where the story takes place.
Plot Shows how the story develops from beginning, middle, to end.
Internal Conflict A problem the character is having with self.
External Conflict A problem the character is having with an outside force such as another character or nature.
Conflict The problem.
Protagonist The main character is the story.
Antagonist The character who goes against the main character and creates conflict.
Characters The people in the story that carry out the action and help develop the plot.
Main Idea What the text is mainly about.
Tone The author's attitude or feelings about the subject in his/her writing.
Details Facts or examples that help explain the central or main idea in a text.
Narrator The character that tells the story to the audience.
Text Evidence Information that is found in the text that helps the reader understand the text more.
Solution How the problem is solved.
Point of View The perspective from which the reader will view the events in a story.
