convalent bond | a chemical bond in which two atoms share a pair of valence electrons |
molecule | a neutral group of atoms that are joined together by one or more covalent |
polar covalent bond | a covalent bond in which electrons are not shared equally |
polyatomic ion | a covalently bonded group of atoms that has a positive or negative charges and acts as units. |
metallic bond | the attraction between a metal cation and the shared electrons that surrounds it. |
alloys | a mixture of two or more elements at least one of which is a metal that has the characteristic property of metal |
reactants | a substance formed as a result of a chemical reaction |
products | new substance formed as a result of a chemical reaction |
chemical equation | a representation of a chemical reaction using symbols of the elements to indicate the amount of substance, usually in moles, of each reactant and product |
coefficients | A numerical measure of a physical or chemical property that is constant for a system under specified conditions, such as the coefficient of friction. |
synthesis | The combining of separate elements or substances to form a coherent whole. |
molar mass | The sum of the atomic weights of all the atoms in a molecule |
decomposition reaction | separation of a substance into two or more substances that may differ from each other and from the original substance |
single replacement reaction | is a type of oxidation-reduction chemical reaction when an element or ion moves out of one compound and into another |
combustion reaction | A chemical change, especially oxidation, accompanied by the production of heat and light. |
