Horizontal Axis Graph line that runs left to right
Vertical Axis Graph line that runs up and down
Origin The (0,0) point on a line graph
Coordinate A pair of numbers that tell the position of a point
Data Point Shows the location of the intersection
Line of Best Fit Reflects general pattern of a graph,average of data
Linear Graph A graph where data points for a straight line
Slope The steepness of a line on a graph
Nonlinear Graph A line graph in which the data points do not fall along a straight line.
Scientific Inquiry A process that includes the various ways that scientists find out about the natural world and try to explain what they observed.
Hypothesis A possible answer to a question that can be tested
Parameter Factors that can be measured
Manipulated Variable Variable that you can change
Responding Variable The variable that changes in response to the manipulated variable
Controlled Experiment An experiment where only one variable is controlled at a time
Data Facts,figures,and other information gathered from experience
Qualitative Observations that have no measurements or numbers
Quantitative Observations that have measurements and numbers
Communicating When you share your results so others can repeat and check results
Model A picture,diagram,or computer image that shows an object or process
Scientific Theory A single explanation that connects a large set of related observations or results from experiments
Scientific Law A statement that describes what scientists expect to happen every time under a particular set
