TermDefinition
Mineral naturally formed, inorganic solid that has a definite crystalline structure.
Elements a pure substance that can not be broken down into simpler substances by ordinary chemicals means
Compound is a substance made up of two or more element that have been chemically joined or boned.
Crystals solid geometric forms of minerals produced by a repeating pattern of atoms or molecules presented through out mineral.
Silicate Mineral minerals that contain a combination of silicate and oxygen
nonsilicate Mineral minerals that DO NOT contain the combination of silicate and oxygen.
Luster surface that reflects light
Streak color of mineral in powered form
Cleavage tendency of some minerals to break along smooth, flat surfaces
Fracture the tendency of some minerals to break unevenly along curved or irregular surfaces
Hardness mineral resistance to being scratched
Density how much matter is in a given amount of space
Ore large enough and pure enough to be mined in profit
Reclamation returning land to its original condition after mining is complete
Pegmaties magma moved upward it can form teardrop-shaped bodies
Pluton sometimes the magma stops before reaching the surface and cools slowly creating millions of mineral crystals
