physical properties of matter

measure a unit used in measuring something or an amount or degree of something
compare to say that (something) is similar to something else
contrast to be different especially in a way that is very obvious
property what a material or substance is like and how it behaves. Describes how a substance behaves. It can describe any piece of the material (for example if a material is strong or soft).
physical property a characteristic of matter that you can observe or measure directly.
matter anything that takes up space and has mass
size how large or small someone or something is
mass the amount of matter in an object
gram a unit of weight in the metric system that is equal to 1/1000 kilogram
kilogram a unit of weight equal to 1,000 grams — abbreviation kg
meter the basic metric unit of length equal to about 39.37 inches
centimeter a length equal to ¹/₁₀₀ meter
volume the amount of space an object takes up.
liter a metric unit for measuring the volume of a liquid or gas that is equal to 1.057 quarts
milliliter a measure of capacity equal to 1/1000 liter
particles are the extremely tiny parts (substances) that scientists believe everything is made up of.
states of matter the physical forms (such as solid, liquid & gas) that matter can exist in.
temperature the measure of the energy of motion in the particles of matter, which we feel as how hot or cold something is.
magnetism the physical property of being magnetic.
density the amount of matter present in a certain volume of a substance.
buoyance the ability of an object to float in water or air
solid the state of matter that has a definite volume and a definite shape
liquid the state of matter that has a definite volume but not a definite shape
gas the state of matter that does not have a definite volume or a definite shape
