Science study of the natural world

Inferring make a guess based on observations
Predicting make a forecast of the future based on the past
Chemistry
Physics study of how matter, energy, motion, and forces interact
Scientific Inquiry the different ways scientist study the natural world
Hypothesis a possible answer to a scientific question or an expectation to a set of observations
Parameter factor that can me measured in an experiment
Manipulated Variable the only variable changed in an experiment
Responding Variable variable expected to change because of the manipulated variable
Controlled Experiment an investigation in which only one parameter is manipulated at a time
Data facts, figures, and other evidence gathered through observations
Communicating sharing ideas and conclusions with others through writing and speaking
Model a picture, diagram, computer image, or other presentations of an object or process
Scientific Theory a well tested explanation for a wide range of explanations or experimental results
Scientific Law a statement that describes what scientists expect to happen every time under a particular set of conditions
Graph a picture of your data
Horizontal Axis the graph line that runs left to right
Vertical Axis the graph line that runs up and down
Origin the point where the two axes cross
Coordinate a pair of numbers used to determine the position of a point on a graph
Data Point the point showing the location of that intersection
Line of Best Fit emphasizes the overall trend shown by all the data taken as a whole
Linear Graph a line graph in which the points land in a straight line
Slope the steepness of the graph line
Nonlinear Graph a line graph in which the data points do not fall along a straight line
Qualitative Data data that has no measurements
Quantitative Data data that has numbers and measurements
