Vocabulary for Measurement and Geometry Unit Grade 7

TermDefinition
Area The measure of the amount space contained inside a two dimensional figure; measured in square units.
Bases The unique faces of three dimensional figures; for prisms they are congruent and parallel.
Chord The distance from a point on the outside of a circle to another point on the outside of the circle without passing through the center.
Circle All the points in a plane that are equidistant from a common point called the center.
Circumference The measure of the distance around a circle.
Composite Figure Any 2d or 3D figure that is composed of different shapes or solids.
Cross Sections The two dimensional figures formed by slicing through a solid.
Cylinder A solid with two circular bases that are congruent and parallel.
Cone A solid with one circular base.
Diameter The distance from the outside of a circle, through the center, to another point on the outside of the circle.
Edges The lines in which the faces of a polyhedron meet.
Faces The two dimensional figures that create three dimensional figures and meet at their edges.
Lateral Surface Area The surface area of a solid, excluding the bases.
Net The two dimensional representation of a solid.
Perimeter The measure of the total distance around a two dimensional figure.
Pi The ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.
Polyhedron A solid whose faces are polygons.
Prism A that has two unique congruent bases that are parallel with the rest of the faces being rectangles.
Pyramid A solid that has one unique base with the rest of the faces being triangles that meet at one point.
Radius The distance from the center to the outside of a circle.
Solid Any three dimensional figure.
Surface Area The measure of the two dimensional space that covers a three dimensional figure.
Vertices The points in which the edges of solids meet.
Volume The measure of the amount of space contained inside a three dimensional figure.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
