AQA Religious Studies A Keywords 2016

TermDefinition
Annulment Roman Catholic practice whereby a marriage is declared ‘invalid’ eg. the marriage was not consummated.
Adultery Sex outside of marriage where at least one of the couple is already married to someone else.
Chastity Sexual purity-Not having sex before marriage
Christian Marriage A commitment to God and the Church - as well as the person you are marrying
Civil marriage ceremony Non-religious marriage ceremony in a marriage registry office or other licensed venue
Civil Partnership A legal registration and recognition of a same-sex partnership
Cohabitation A couple living together and having a sexual relationship without being married to one another
Divorce The legal ending of a marriage
Extended family Grandparents, uncles, aunts’ etc. living with the nuclear family or living very close
Marital Breakdown When a marriage ends, leading to divorce or separation
Religious Marriage A legal union between a man and a woman in a Church
Nuclear family Mother, father and children living together as a unit
One parent family parent Where only one of the parents is bringing up the children
Pre-marital sex Sex before marriage
Religious marriage ceremony The ceremony in which a man and woman marry in a Church before God
Re-marriage When people who have been married before marry again
