Gray Matter Cortical regions it the outer layer of the hemisphere where the nerve cell body resides.
Cortical Dementia Alzeihmers disease. memory intellect and language. Loss of mylein sheath brain shrins sulci widens. unknown causes. environmental or genetic death 5 to 10 years after diagnosis. occurs more in women.
White matter Subcortical region. Located on the brain in which the nerve cell fibers reside. Neuromuscular control. Parkinson disease
Lang & communication AD Cognition, memory and intellect affected in early stages.. Speech language deficits in the mid to late stages..Aphasia: language disorders. AD language disorder due to cognitive deficits. Early AD and Anomic Aphasia Late AD and wernickes Aphasia.
Early Stage of AD Word retrieval difficulty. Subtle comprehension problems. Fluid and syntactically correct speech
Middle Stage of AD Semantic Paraphrasia. unnecessary repetition of ideas. Excessive speech fewer ideas. Mod to severe comprehension problems.
Late Stage of AD Nonfunctional, Comprehension of simple familair material. Single word speech. limited automatic speech, minimally verbal.
PArkinson Disease Subcortical region, James Parkisonn, Rigidity, tremors, slowness, loss of balance. Death within 15 to 20 yrs after diagnosis. Aspiration Pneumonia
Speech and Lang in PD weak voice, rapid speech, small writing impaired articulation, Drooling and dysphgia in early stage and cognitive and communication in late stage, stuttering like repetition.
