altitude | How high you are above sea level. |
atmosphere | What surrounds the earth; a mixture of gasses. |
climate | What the weather usually is like in an area. |
clouds | Water droplets that collect in the air to form visible white/grey shapes. |
condensation | Drops of a liquid that are formed from a gas. |
energy | Different kinds of things that cause motion. |
evaporation | When a liquid changes into a gas. |
exosphere | The top layer of the earth’s atmosphere. |
freezing | When a liquid cools down to become a solid. |
front (cold, warm) | When masses of air that are different temperatures meet each other. |
Gulf Stream | A current that comes up from the Gulf of Mexico and crosses the Atlantic Ocean to northwestern Europe. |
humidity | The level of water vapor in air. |
hypothesis | A theorized explanation for some things that’s based on observations and can be tested. |
landform | A formation on earth’s surface. |
latitude | How high or low you are relative of the equator. |
melting | When a solid is heated up and turns into a liquid. |
mesosphere | A layer of the earth’s atmosphere between the stratosphere and the thermosphere where the temperature decreases based on how high you are. |
meteorologist | A weather scientist. |
ocean current | The movement of lots of water in the ocean. |
precipitation | When water travels back to the earth. |
pressure (high, low) | Force that’s applied to a surface. |
prevailing wind | Common wind direction for a region. |
stratosphere | Region of the atmosphere of earth that’s between the troposphere and the mesosphere. |
thermosphere | Part of earth’s atmosphere above the mesosphere where temperature increases in altitude. |
troposphere | Lowest layer of earth’s atmosphere where most weather and organisms happen and live. |
water cycle | The cycle of water as it turns from clouds to rain to groundwater then back to clouds. |
water vapor | Water as a gas. |
weather | The condition of the atmosphere at a certain time and place. |
wind | Air that moves from higher pressure to lower pressure in a horizontal movement. |
