unemployed The who have actively searched for work but are not currently employed
Employed re those who have worked at least one hour in the previous two weeks
Labor force Number of employed persons plus the number of unemployed persons.
Unemployment rate Percentage of the labor force that is not currently employed.
Labor force participaton rate Is the percentage of the working age population classified as either employed or unemployed.
Employment to population rate Is the percentage of the working age population that is classified as employed.
Marginally attached workers People ready and available to work, who have conducted a hob search within the past twelve but have not searched in the past four weeks.
U3 to measure those who fall between the cracks of the official rate
U1 Only includes people unemployed fifteen weeks or longer.
U2 only includes people who have lost a job as opposed to those who have quit or those who have entered the labor force
U4 Discouraged workers to the official unemployment rate
U6 Includes all of the "U" above and those who are emplyed part time because of economic reasons.
U5 Includes all marginally attached workers
Frictional unemployment occurs when people voluntarily enter the labor fore or are between jobs they are qualified for.
Structural unemployment Occurs when job seekers' skill sets are not in demand because of geography or obsolescence.
Creative destruction When an industry or old technologies are replaced by new technologies. example workers with robots.
Efficiency wages Are those that exceed the equilibrium market wage. To encourage worker productivity
Cyclical unemployment Occurs because of contractions in the business cycle.
Full employment occurs when cyclical unemployment is not present in the economy.
Natural rate of unemployment exists when there is no cyclical unemployment present in the economy. Thought to be independent of the inflation rate.
Discouraged workers unemployed i the search in frustration.
